Achievement
Since 1975, a number of HTXs derived from cancer patients have been transplanted in nude mice of the same sex as the donor patient and established under an aseptic condition, and also some established HTXs were distributed from other institutes. Altogether 50 HTXs have been passaged so far in nude mice.
The biological characteristics of HTXs and given drug-sensitivity to their HTXs had been examined. We have investigated the biological parameters that are related to drug sensitivity.
It was found that the drug sensitivities between tumors' in donor patients and corresponding, established HTXs in nude mice were excellently correlative (papers: Japanese 34, English 22, others 2, General remarks, Interpretation 3).
We had taken over the surgical department duties from the former Department of Surgery Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, Osaka University, Japan, and had 144 contracts, conducted more than 800 experiments, including some of approved drugs and/or under judgment. Our HTX-transplanted nude mouse system has been estimated internationally as a highly-developed model. (Our Lab and name are listed in “ Who’s who”)
